I am musically frustrated. Composd 669 won't work on my system, I don't
have a midi controller, and I can't find a module composer. Can anyone
direct me to a mod composer somewhere please please please? (I am working
on getting a midi controller). I am tired of writing machine-sounding
music with Cakewalk's staff edit (look at marcsong and marc).
Any help would be appreciated. I have this awesome card and all I can do
is listen to other people's stuff. (fume) Not that it's bad. :)

We have the same problem on our system. The digitized speech plays for
a few seconds and then cuts out, but the music continues without problems.
We're using a 386-40 with a Texel 3024 cd-rom drive running off a Future
Domain 1660 controller.

Well, now that we've all got the new GUS SDK, does anyone know of a
way to convert patches made for keyboards like the K2000, Yamaha DX7, etc...
to a format compatable with the GUS?
There are a couple of ftp sites which are LOADED with patches for these and
many other keyboards... if there was a way to convert them, the GUS could
quickly become a low-cost alternative to the many other high-priced sound
cards which have specialized hardware to make sounds.
Any thoughts/ideas?
(btw, if this gets overly technical, maybe post replies to the sdk mail list).

2. It seems that Windows and GUS is too slow to get all midi information

Most sequencers change Note Off messages to Note On messages with a
velocity of zero, or just drop them entirely and store the length of
the note with the Note On message. Windows & GUS is not too slow -
MIDI itself is a low speed communications protocol - it's just that
Note Off messages are translated into something else.

Is something wrong with the midiplay program in the new
2.06L disk???
I had the version with 2.04 and didn't notice any problems,
but the 2.06L version doesn't show the channel volumes corretly.
That is to say the white lines of the different channels are either
on all the way, or off.
The version with the 2.04 disks showed the volumes rise and fall
with the outputs of each chennel. Anyone else have this problem.
Also the Gmoddemo program plays the mod files very quitely compared to the
moddemo program. It also has a background tone playing along with the
mod file that is very annoying. What am I doing wrong, or am I doing anything
wrong????
Other then that the 2.06 patches are WAY better then the ones in 2.04.
Just some comments for GUSIANS.

Someone (sorry, I'm in a hurry):

Fair enough, but my CD player does sound pretty good at 44.1kHz.

Afraid there isn't likely to be much new music from me in the next two weeks.
Got two seven hour exams based on a years coursework to sit (yes, I am
serious). After that I'm going into the patch production business. I've
more or less got the patch editor from the sdk figured out and I'm trying
to work out how to use Csound. Looks like I'm going to be stuck with 8-bit
sampling for the moment, though. Also going to have a go at 3D effects in
midi files. Anyway, once I've got all this worked out I'll write some new
tracks using the technology and write some FAQs on how I did it.
Tell you what though, there's at least two unreleased fairly complete
midi tracks out there by other people. I won't name any names, but perhaps
it's about time ...
Chris.

Hi everyone. I'm really annoyed. I actually bought a modem today in order
to download the Fp3d.exe file from the Gravis BBS (well, it was only $20,
but still). Got on to the BBS having fallen for the promise of the $10
download of Fp3d.exe and then I couldn't find it anywhere! I'm pretty
desperate because soon I'll be over in Australia and I'm not going to pay
to download the thing from there.
If anyone at all has succeeded in downloading this file PLEASE tell me how
to do it. I cannot try to write 3D Chrismid's unless I can get this file.
Thanks,
Chris.
